Backyard S’mores

rainy-day-smoresWe had a wonderful camping trip planned for my birthday last spring, and wouldn’t you know it, in the midst of a terrible drought in Southern California, we had a rainstorm move through that took out our weekend. Yay, rain – we needed it! But boo, rain – its my birthday!

The kids were understandably disappointed, but what does a Pantry Fairy do when all hope seems lost – IMPROVISE! We set up the blow up mattress in the living room for our campout, and roasted our hot dogs and s’mores on the grill in the backyard.

Our trip may have been rained out, but spirits were high, and the memories are priceless!

What about you? How do you like your s’mores? Marshmallows warm and toasty brown? Do you let them catch on fire and love them blackened? My son loves to eat them in shifts, eating each element separately rather than stacked as a gooey sandwich

We are looking forward to many more campouts and beach bonfires to enjoy more of these tasty treats!

Classic S’mores:

  • Marshmallows
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Bar
  • Graham Crackers

Roast your marshmallow over the fire as desired. Layer the marshmallow and a block of chocolate between graham cracker halves, forming a sandwich.
